That went quicker than expected! Games starting to work (with POKEY!) on the new Trion based 7800GD board. The Efinix dev tools are a bit clunky and rough around the edges, but everything needed is there.
The latest Trion powered 7800GD variant! It doesn't work yet, so this is a monumentally dull post, but now I have a jumping off point to start playing around with it.
The FPGA is configuring and the microcontroller is awake, so things are happening! It just doesn't work.
@krikzz I don’t do that any more… maybe I should! I used to have one of these as a kid and loved making projects. Sadly neither of my two girls are interested in electronics. Maybe one day…
This is totally cool. Building your own computer from off the shelf chips is one thing, but building your own IC’s is a whole new level of genius insanity! Much respect.
I designed a new IC, it doesn't work yet but getting close! It adds two 1-bit numbers together and uses compact layout rules that are a big step towards making a full CPU. Also figured out how to do multiple metal layers, only 1 here tho
